one thing that I found interesting in the book were reading is that josias mom had the brains to know that the raiders that invaded them would take or destroy anything that they thought that they needed or could use.
This blog follows the comings and goings of a fabulous fifth grade class at Union Elementary School in Montpelier, Vermont and their teacher, Mrs. Pierce.
Curtis at the Trash Dump!
Trash Dump!
As part of their Service Learning Project, we conducted a Waste Audit with the Central VT Solid Waste Management District. We collected all of the school's trash from an entire day, dumped it out on tarps and dug in! Kids wore gloves and weeded through the 82 bags, sorting out what could be composted, reused or recycled. We ended up diverting so much garbage that in the end, all of the actual trash could fit into 2 garbage bags!!! The fifth graders, who are already in charge of the school's recycling program, will continue to make classroom visits to educate the students and staff about reducing waste here at UES. Go Green!

Redecorating Donation Boxes for the Central Vermont Humane Society!
I live in Montpelier with my family. I have a husband, one 5 1/2 year old girl, a 20 month old son, two dogs, and a tank full of walking stick insects. Also, a betta fish named Blueberry. We also have 5 alpacas, Winnie, Sarah, Amos and babies Iris and Ivy...
I love the outdoors, I enjoy cooking and traveling, and I read anything I can get my hands on.
I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was four years old and would earnestly line up my dollies and stuffed animals in rows in my bedroom, give them name tags, and proceed to educate them well into the afternoon.
I have been a teacher at Union Elementary School for thirteen years and love it as much as I did the first year. I love the kids, the smell of chalk, the fourth and firth grade curriculum, the variety of activities, and the field trips!
I am always trying to improve my teaching, hence the technology integration course. This is my first attempt at a class blog. Enjoy!
